YouTube CPM by niche in 2026 ranges from about $0.50 (entertainment shorts, kids content) to over $40 (finance, insurance, real estate). Picking a niche without knowing its CPM is the single biggest revenue mistake creators make. Here is what every major niche actually pays this year.

I have talked to a lot of creators who spent two years building an audience in a $1 CPM niche and only found out after monetizing that the ceiling was 50 dollars a month at 100k views. Do not be that creator. Check the numbers first.

Why CPM Varies So Much

CPM is set by advertiser willingness to pay. Advertisers pay more for viewers who are likely to buy expensive things.

A finance viewer is likely researching a purchase (brokerage account, mortgage, insurance) worth thousands of dollars in commission to the advertiser. A gaming viewer is likely a teenager watching for fun.

The advertiser is not paying based on how much your video costs to make or how much time you put in. They are paying based on the expected value of reaching that viewer.

CPM by Niche in 2026

Broad ranges by niche category. Your specific sub-niche and audience geography will shift these up or down significantly.

Ultra-High CPM Niches ($20 - $50 CPM)

  • Personal finance / investing
  • Insurance (life, health, auto)
  • Real estate investing
  • Business software / SaaS reviews
  • Legal advice
  • Mortgages / lending

High CPM Niches ($10 - $25 CPM)

  • Marketing / SEO
  • Cryptocurrency (highly cyclical)
  • Digital marketing tools
  • Web development / coding tutorials
  • B2B software
  • Career / job advice
  • Accounting / taxes
  • Health insurance / medical billing

Solid Middle CPM Niches ($5 - $12 CPM)

  • Tech reviews / gadgets
  • Photography / camera gear
  • Cars / automotive
  • Home improvement
  • Cooking / recipe tutorials
  • DIY / crafts
  • Beauty / skincare
  • Fashion (high-end)
  • Fitness / gym
  • Nutrition / diet

Lower CPM Niches ($2 - $6 CPM)

  • Travel vlogs
  • Product unboxings
  • Movie / TV reviews
  • Book reviews
  • Language learning
  • Gaming (varies wildly by game)
  • Podcast clips
  • Interview-format content

Very Low CPM Niches ($0.50 - $3 CPM)

  • Kids content (heavily ad-restricted post-COPPA)
  • Gaming compilations
  • Music channels
  • Meme / comedy content
  • Prank videos
  • Reaction videos
  • Anime discussion
  • Sports highlights (often demonetized)

The Sub-Niche Effect

Broad niches hide huge sub-niche variance.

Gaming is $1 to $5 average, but:

  • Roblox family content: $0.30 to $1
  • Warframe / niche PC games: $1 to $3
  • Gaming industry / news: $3 to $8
  • Gaming business / streaming careers: $8 to $15

Health is $3 to $8 average, but:

  • General workout: $2 to $5
  • Nutrition / supplements: $6 to $12
  • Medical education (nursing, med school): $10 to $20
  • Health insurance / medical business: $15 to $30

Tech is $5 to $12 average, but:

  • Consumer gadgets: $4 to $8
  • Coding tutorials: $8 to $15
  • SaaS / B2B software: $15 to $30
  • Cybersecurity: $12 to $25

The subcategory matters as much as the parent category.

The Ad Format Multiplier

CPM is per 1000 ad impressions, not per 1000 views. Different ad formats compound.

  • Skippable pre-roll: 1 ad impression per view
  • Skippable + non-skippable pre-roll: 2 impressions
  • Videos over 8 minutes with mid-rolls: 2-4 additional impressions
  • Long-form videos (20+ minutes) with 4+ mid-rolls: 5-8 total impressions per view

So a 20-minute finance video with 5 mid-rolls can effectively earn 5x more per view than a 5-minute finance video at the same CPM.

This is why long-form beats Shorts for revenue, even in high-CPM niches. For the views vs money split, see YouTube Shorts vs long videos.

What Nobody Tells You About Timing

CPMs are highly seasonal.

  • Q4 (Oct-Dec) — CPMs spike 50 to 100% because of holiday ad spend. Post your best videos then.
  • Q1 (Jan-Mar) — CPMs crash 30 to 40% after holiday. New creator content will feel like it is earning nothing.
  • Q2 and Q3 — Steady baseline.

Do not pivot niches based on a January CPM report. Wait until Q4 for your real number.

Should You Chase the High-CPM Niches?

The right answer is not to blindly chase finance because it pays more. The right answer is to pick a niche where:

  1. Your CPM is at least $3 (otherwise the revenue math never works)
  2. You can actually make content weekly for years without hating it
  3. The competition is winnable at your skill level
  4. You have a real information advantage or perspective

A $30 CPM channel that stalls at 1k subs earns nothing. A $3 CPM channel with 500k subs earns something. Sustainability beats CPM math.

How to Check Your Estimated CPM Before You Start

Do not trust generic CPM charts (including this one) for your specific case. Country mix, video length, subcategory, and monetization eligibility all shift your actual number.

Use the YouTube CPM & RPM Estimator and plug in your niche, primary audience country, and target video length. It gives you a realistic RPM (what you actually take home) instead of the theoretical CPM.

Then before you commit to a niche, run a few of your planned video titles through the CTR Predictor to see if your content angle can actually get clicked in that space.

Niche Selection Checklist

  • Minimum $3 CPM to justify the effort
  • Sub-niche matters more than parent niche
  • Long-form + mid-rolls is where the real revenue lives
  • Q4 numbers are the honest ones
  • Use CPM Estimator for your specific setup
  • Do not pivot niches every 3 months, pick and commit

Pick smart, commit hard, and let time compound.
